He leads a team in the Construction, Infrastructure and PPP practice group.
Ricardo advises clients on all aspects of the delivery of construction and infrastructure projects, from procurement and the drafting and negotiation of contracts to contract administration and the avoidance and resolution of disputes. He acts for key role players in the sector including employers, contractors, engineers, banks, project and mining companies.
Ricardo advises both the public and private sectors on the FIDIC, NEC and JBCC standard form contracts. He has experience in reviewing and amending these standard form contracts in accordance with market standards and international best practice. Ricardo has also negotiated bespoke EPC, EPCM, B&D, O&M and professional services contracts, including onshore and offshore contracts with bridging agreements, to cater for financial risks and liabilities in cross-border transactions.
His focus is within the energy, petrochemical, transport, mining, infrastructure and water sectors, where he advises on a wide range of large, complex and multi-faceted projects relating to the engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of a wide range of facilities.
Ricardo has extensive experience representing domestic and international clients, financial institutions, government and regulatory bodies in respect of complex and high value disputes. He has represented clients in the High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal, and the Constitutional Court in both trial and motion proceedings and has successfully sought urgent interdictory and mandatory relief for clients. His experience further extends to arbitrations in general contractual and commercial disputes. He has also represented clients in specialized regulatory tribunals, including the National Consumer Tribunal and the Equality Court. His construction dispute resolution expertise focuses on complex delay and disruption claims in the petrochemical, transport and water sectors.
