Donovan Cavanagh currently serves as the Group Legal Head for Alistair Group, a logistics company with operations spanning throughout Eastern and Southern Africa.
Prior to his current role, he served as Regional Legal Counsel for G4S where his portfolio included the entities in Botswana, Egypt, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, and Uganda.
He finds his origins in corporate commercial law with a focus in M&A work after starting his professional career at Van Huyssteens Commercial Attorneys. He is proactive in continual development, seeing every new instruction as an opportunity to expand his lateral understanding of business by active collaboration with the operational and commercial teams.
Donovan holds a LLB and an LLM in mercantile law (both from the University of Pretoria). His master’s dissertation, titled “Control - A comparative analysis of the correlations between section 12 of the Competition Act 89 of 1998 and section 2 of the Companies Act 71 of 2008” is cited in the Henochsberg on the Companies Act 71 of 2008. He is currently enrolled for his first year of CIMA.
